Als Sony 1994 mit der PlayStation in die Konsolenwelt eintrat, sollte sich damit das ganze Business total verändern. Die PlayStation 1 erschien 1994 in Japan und 1995 in USA und Europa. Besonders in den USA und Europa wurde die PS1 oder PSX (oder später PSOne) zu einem echten Massenphänomen. Denn die Spieleauswahl bot wirklich alles und die CDs konnten sehr leicht „für Sammler präpariert“ werden. Daher ist es kein Wunder, dass sich die PlayStation 1 über 100 (!!!) Millionen Mal verkaufte. Und Titel wie Gran Turismo auch gerne mal 10 Millionen Mal über den Ladentisch gingen. 2006 ging dann aber auch für die PS1 das Licht aus.
When Sony entered the world of consoles in 1994 with the PlayStation, the whole business was set to change completely. The PlayStation 1 was released in Japan in 1994 and in the USA and Europe in 1995. Especially in the USA and Europe, the PS1 or PSX (or later PSOne) became a real mass phenomenon. The range of games really did offer everything and the discs could easily be ‘prepared for collectors’. So it’s no wonder that the PlayStation 1 sold over 100 (!!!) million units. And titles such as Gran Turismo also sold 10 million copies. In 2006, however, the light went out for the PS1 too.
