Mit dem Sega Saturn sprang nun auch Sega ins CD-Zeitalter. Die Konsole erschien in Japan 1994 und in USA und Europa dann 1995. Eigentlich lief es für den Saturn recht gut – besonders natürlich in Japan. Aber neben dem Rivalen PlayStation nahm der N64 viel vom Glanz des Saturns weg und beendete den Erfolg des Saturns recht schnell. Besonders in Europa gingen für den Saturn schon die Lichter 1998 aus. In Japan gab es die Konsole noch bis 2000 und insgesamt wurden auch tatsächlich 10 Millionen Exemplare verkauft.
With the Sega Saturn, Sega also jumped into the CD age. The console was released in Japan in 1994 and then in the USA and Europe in 1995. Things actually went quite well for the Saturn – especially in Japan, of course. But alongside its rival PlayStation, the N64 took away much of the Saturn’s lustre and quickly put an end to its success. Especially in Europe, the lights went out for the Saturn by 1998. In Japan, the console was still available until 2000 and a total of 10 million units were actually sold.
