1990 erblickte der Compact Disc-Interactive besser bekannt als CD-I später CD-i von Philips das Licht der Welt. Obwohl das System auch als Spielkonsole genutzt werden kann, war es eher als Videoplayer gedacht. Und ohne das zusätzliche Videomodule sind die meisten Games auch nicht lauffähig. Besonders durch die berüchtigten Mario und Zelda-Spiele ist der CD-i zur zweifelhaften Berühmtheit gekommen. 1998 war da aber dann auch Ende mit dem System. Damit verschwand dann auch Philips aus dem Konsolen- und Heimcomputermarkt.
In 1990, the Compact Disc Interactive better known as CD-I later CD-i from Philips saw the light of day. Although the system could also be used as a games console, it was intended more as a video player. And without the additional video module, most games could not be played.
