Der Nachfolger der PSP sollte die PlayStation Vita werden. Diese erschien in Japan 2011 und dann in USA und in Europa 2012. Obwohl dieser Handheld ein absolutes Powerhouse war, konnte das Games-Line-Up nicht ganz überzeugen. Daher wurden auch nur maximal 15 Millionen Vitas verkauft. Für Sony schien dies ein totaler Fehlschlag gewesen zu sein. Denn danach zog man sich komplett aus dem Handheldgeschäft zurück.
