Das Sega CD bzw. Mega-CD war ein Add On was den Sega Mega Drive bzw. Genesis nun auch CD-fähig machen sollte. In Japan und USA erschien das Device 1992, in Europa erst 1993. Obwohl Sega ein paar richtige gute Titel auf den Markt brachte (u.a. die Lunar Serie, Snatcher, Sonic CD etc.) verkümmerte das Device zu einfachen Mega Drive- bzw. Genesis-Ports und grausamen FMV Games. Verkauft wurden immerhin gut 2,3 Millionen Einheiten. Trotzdem beendet Sega das Sega CD 1996. Mit dem Sega CD und 32X sah das arme Mega Sega Drive bzw. Sega Genesis wie ein hässlicher verunstalteter Lego-Klotz aus (Grüße an den Held der Steine – nur Farbseuche gab es nicht – alles war in Schwarz gehüllt).

With the Sega CD and 32X, the poor Mega Sega Drive or Sega Genesis looked like an ugly, disfigured Lego block (greetings to the hero of bricks/Held der Steine – only there was no colour epidemic – everything was covered in black).
