Der Atari 2600 ist wohl die bekannteste Spielkonsole der 80er. Der Atari VCS (Video Computer System) erschien in den USA 1977 und bei uns 1979. Weltweit wurde von dem Gerät 30 Millionen Einheiten verkauft. Über 1.000 verschiedene Spiele erschienen für dieses System. Mit Activision erblühte auf dem Atari auch der erste richtige Third Partner Publisher, der nur entstand, da Atari nicht gerade freundlich mit seinen eigenen Mitarbeiter umgegangen ist. Weiter ist der 2600er natürlich bekannt geworden durch den 2. Nordamerikanischen Video Game Crash und dem Verbuddeln von E.T.-Modulen. Der Lebenszyklus dieses Klassikers endete 1992. Erfolgreichstes Game auf der Plattform war Pac-Man mit 8 Millionen Einheiten.
The Atari 2600 is probably the best-known games console of the 80s. The Atari VCS (Video Computer System) was released in the USA in 1977 and in Germany in 1979. 30 million units of the device were sold worldwide. Over 1,000 different games were released for this system. Activision, the first real third partner publisher, blossomed on the Atari, which only came into being because Atari did not treat its own employees very kindly. The 2600 also became famous through the 2nd North American Video Game Crash and the burying of E.T. modules. The life cycle of this classic ended in 1992. The most successful game on the platform was Pac-Man with 8 million units.
